This book attempts to critically study the education policies in Pakistan in a holistic manner. The rationale for the education policy and its planning process are discussed in detail. It also attempts to understand the processes of planning and implementing education policies through a sociopolitical context. It covers vision and goals; primary, higher, and technical and vocational education; literacy rates; female education; language; special education; religious education; curricula; and teacher education. Each theme is tracked through policies set in motion from 1947 up to policy documents presented till the first quarter of 2021.

Author Description

Shahid Siddiqui has a PhD in Language Education from the University of Toronto, Canada. He has worked at Aga Khan University, GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Lahore University of Management Sciences, and National University of Modern Languages, and served as the Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad (2014–18).  He is currently working as Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Media Studies, Art and Design, Lahore School of Economics. His published books include Rethinking Education in Pakistan: Perception, Practices, and Possibilities (2007), Education, Inequalities, and Freedom: A Sociopolitical Critique (2010), Language, Gender, and Power: The Politics of Representation and Hegemony in South Asia (2014), and Education Policies in Pakistan: Politics, Projections, and Practices (2016).
